Chaconne and Burlesque
(from Symphony No. 1)

Instrumentation: *3,.*3,*3,*3/4,3,3,1/T,3P,Hp,Pf,Cel/Stgs
Duration: 12 mins.

These two movements were commissioned by the Utica Symphony and premiered by that orchestra in 1960 with the composer conducting. They subsequently received many performances, both in this excerpted form and also taking their place in the complete symphony. The finely-crafted, haunting Chaconne is balanced by a jaunty, irreverent Burlesque.
